The Asian HIV/AIDS Resource Needs Estimation and Costing Model: a hands-on workshop

SYNOPSIS:

The estimation of a total resource needs for comprehensive HIV/AIDS response is a critical component of strategic HIV/AIDS planning and resource mobilisation. There are a number of tools to assist the resource needs estimation exercise, including the widely-used Resource Needs Model by the Futures Group. However, there are no tools specifically designed for the Asian region. Building upon the Resource Needs Model, UNDP, UNAIDS and ADB have been developing a new resource needs estimation tool that is designed to capture various elements unique to Asia. One of the prominent features of the new model, or the Asian Resource Needs Estimation and Costing Model (Asian Model), is its conceptual and functional alignment with the direction and key recommendations of the Report of the Commission on AIDS in Asia (Commission Report). The Asian Model now offers various analytic functions in line with the Commission Report. It, for example, allows users to understand how estimated resources are distributed according to key priority areas defined in the Commission Report. This skills building session provides an interactive introduction to the Asian Model, focusing on its unique features and functions.
